June 18 has been designated by the international community as Sustainable Gastronomy Day by decision of the UN General Assembly, taken on December 21, 2016.

The purpose of the celebration is to emphasize the important role of sustainable gastronomy in achieving the goals of sustainable development, as it promotes the development of agricultural production, food safety, healthy eating, sustainable food production and the preservation of biodiversity.

Achieving the goals of sustainable gastronomy contributes to poverty reduction, the efficient use of resources, the protection of the environment, cultural values, heritage and diversity.
