June 4 was established as the International Day against Aggression against Children in 1983, by decision of the UN General Assembly. The reason was the aggression of the Israeli state against a large number of children of Palestinian origin.
This day should remind us that there are millions of children around the world who suffer from different types of abuse - physical, mental and emotional.
The statistics are staggering: 2 million children have been killed in war in the last twenty years, while 20 million have lived in refugee camps. Eighty thousand children are victims of domestic violence each year in South America and the Caribbean.
