Easter in the village is the most magical. I unearthed the 6 parts of Greece that celebrate it in the most impressive and explosive way, to live a special experience!
Corfu
The most popular Easter destination, with a unique tradition. The people of Corfu fill huge jugs with water, the boots, and throw them from their balconies on the cantons on Holy Saturday morning to break them. Thunder cannons give the feeling of an earthquake, while raids from the Philharmonic are heard everywhere.
Chios Starting from the years of Ottoman rule, the Chians celebrate Easter with a rocket war between the parishes, in the village of Vrontado. The spectacle is enchanting but also adventurous, which is why the authorities take high security measures.
Leonidio
Perhaps the most spectacular custom is the improvised bright balloons in Leonidio, on the night of the Resurrection. After the first Christ Resurrected, the colorful lanterns rise to the sky accompanied by fireworks, while at the same time they burn Judas next to the church.
Patmos
The island of Apocalypse offers a unique immersion experience. The island with the great religious tradition, is famous for the ceremony of the Washbasin, the representation of the Last Supper by the abbot and 12 monks, on the morning of Holy Thursday in the town hall square.
Kalamata
Every year, Kalamata hosts the "bouloukia" competition, which stems from the liberation struggles of 1821. The locals organize an impressive, fiery shuttle war, with pipes full of gunpowder and wearing traditional costumes.
Paros
In Paros, during the procession of the Epitaph, there is a live representation of the Passion by children in disguise, while in each stop a part of the mountain is illuminated. The representation of the Resurrection takes place in a dazzling atmosphere of thousands of candles and fireworks.
Whichever place you choose you will have a fantastic time .. happy easter with health and happiness! :)
